Regardless of his personal struggles, his writing inspired millions and is read worlwide to this day, he even has a museum dedicated to his life and work. Kurt suffered sporadically with depression and also attempted suicide despite the success of many of his books.

Although Vonnegut already had three children with his wife, he adopted his sister’s three sons. His mother commited suicide on Mother's day, and his son was diagnosed with schizophrenia early in his adult life. In the late 1950s, Vonnegut’s sister, Alice, died of cancer and Alice’s husband died in a train accident within the span of a few days. From the author of Slaughterhouse Five, Kurt Vonnegut's life was at times just as turbulent as his most famous writing.
